April Gabrielle', I'm writing you with tears in my eyes, thanking God for your strength and courage. To share such intimate parts of your life took true love for yourself as well as your children. Your insight on how single parents can raise confident, secure children, as well as having a happy harmonious home is priceless. Just ...wanted to let you know I have shared your experience with a few of my single parent friends who are going through challenges with their children. I jumped at the chance to share your experience of Raising Boys to Men as well as "Self Esteem and Self Image. The Myth of the Broken Home shows that parenthood is one of the most challenging but rewarding jobs anyone could ever have! It’s clear how much you loved your children and understood your God given responsibility. Great Job! -

I finally received my copy of "The Myth of the Broken Home" and I'm so excited! I started reading and have laughed, cried, felt convicted (uh-oh) and jotted notes that will assist me with continuing this journey as being a single mother. There is FINALLY a book to remind us, to love the blessing God has giv...en us (our children), to continue to hold our heads high and to KNOW that it IS just a MYTH!! Love you!!

The Myth of the Broken Home is a great resource for two parent families as well as single parents. The Education section opened my eyes to what it means to be an advocate for my child. It is our responsibility
to ensure our children are getting the most from their teachers and schools. I now understand that I am partn...ering with my child’s teacher, not demanding service from them. Effective communication with the school gives my child the best opportunity to excel at home andschool. Thank you April Gabrielle!

I am excited to know there is an experienced and educated black woman sharing first-hand knowledge on the topic of single parenting, esp. of black males. I thank you Ms. April. I do have to ask if you know of any programs or organizations on the west coast (Southern California) that cater to the needs of us single moms?

This book is amazing! Everyone household single and non should have a copy. Ms. April is a blessing to so many, first allowing her story to be shared and giving us an open door to her life. Her teachings and guidance are for everyone whether your a mother, father, son, daughter, aunt, uncle or friend. Ms. April touches on the day to day in's and out;s of parenting and life in general, as a non-single new mommy and wife I keep the book on my hip along with my yellow high-lighter. Everything in the book is useful, I love how Ms. April speaks about "Cherishing Your Children" this is vital to their growth and development, you begin to cherish your child in the womb. I agree with Ms. April when she states it doesn't matter the circumstance of your pregnancy your child is here for a reason and you cherish your child/children.
I love how she addresses to watch our behavior as parents because often times as parents we forget we are to set the example our children should mirror. Just the other day....

While this book is a great comprehensive practical guide to parenting, the essence of it is so much more--EMPOWERMENT. The message that single parents are not helpless victims but rather powerful leaders of their families comes through loudly and clearly. April Gabrielle writes with the understanding that there is nothing *wrong* with single parent-headed families, but there are unique experiences, perspectives, opportunities and challenges. And, she addresses all of these with a well-blended formula of straight-up practical here-are-the steps advice combined with i've-been-there empathy and you-are-powerful affirmation. Any single parent, mother or father, will benefit from having this handy and inspirational how-to-guide at their fingertips.
